Here at VloggerSupplies.com, we’re big believers in chasing your dreams. And the great thing about vlogging is that it allows you to share your dream with other people and take them along for the ride.

But if you’re just getting started it can be very confusing trying to figure out what kind of equipment is best for the kind of vlogging you’re doing. Are you a travel vlogger? A DIY repair specialist? A food vlogger? Creating makeup tutorials from your bedroom? Tutorial videos?

Each vlogging style requires a different setup and different equipment. So where do you start?

One of the things we like best about vlogging is that you can vlog about almost anything, and chances are, there’s an audience out there waiting for you. And once you figure out what kind of vlogging you want to do, you can then build your equipment list based on your needs.

Some of these recommendations may seem pretty obvious, but they’re meant to be general guidelines to point you in the right direction. In the end, you need to find what works best for you.

So what kind of Vlogger are you? What kind of equipment will you need?

Travel Vlogger: When you’re on the road, you’re equipment is going to get bumped, dinged, and dropped, no matter how careful you are, so you want to make sure you get durable equipment that isn’t going to fall apart the first time it gets bumped. The second major consideration is size and weight. Portability is key. You want stuff that’s not only easy to set up and operate, but also able to shoot high quality video and pictures. And depending on what kind of travel videos you plan on filming, you may want to invest in a drone as well.
Tutorial/Instructional: This covers a wide-range of videos from cooking videos to makeup tutorials and so on. But in general, for these kinds of videos, you need a more stationary set-up with a high-quality camera, mic, good lighting, reflectors, etc. that will give you consistent results.
DIY Repair: Depending on what kind of video you’re making in this category, you might consider a more multi-purpose equipment solution that gives you flexibility, especially if you don’t know for sure what kinds of videos you’ll be shooting or how mobile you need to be.

Technical Overkill:

We have an admission to make… we’re not super technical people here at VloggerSupplies.com, we’re creative types, like you. So if you are anything like us, which we’re assuming you are, then reading most technical specs is like reading tax forms, and make your eyes roll back in your head!

We’re not going to do that to you.

Yes, we’ll provide some tech specs, but our focus will be plain and simple.. “Is this camera good for Vlogging?”, “What’s the best mic for travel vlogging?” “Did I feed the dog and start the dishwasher before I left the house this morning?… or did I start the dog and feed the dishwasher?”… okay, we may not be able to answer that question, but you get the point. We figure there’s enough sites out there for Spec-heads if they want to dig into details. And we’ll do our best to point you toward those sites when necessary.
